The life, it doth sucketh at times.

Well, yesterday did not go as planned. When I woke up to a gloomy day, I should’ve gone back to bed. But no. I was all excited. I got up, dressed, and had a fresh squeezed oj/strawberry/banana smoothie for breakfast.

The plan was to go to the Farmers Market, hit up Wild Oats for agave nectar and nutritional yeast, and head home to stuff myself silly. Well, that didn’t happen because I got in my first car accident.

Now, it was a pretty minor car accident. I was pulling into a space, and wham. I hit the back corner of the car on my right. I honestly don’t know what happened. The space I was pulling into was really tight (I ended up pulling out of it and then parking in another spot), but I guess I just wasn’t paying attention. I was thinking about how hungry I was, and how annoyed I was for taking the wrong highway to get to the Farmers Market and ending up on the road to Knoxville, and how I wished the car had working air conditioning.

So I reparked, wrote a note, put it on the windshield, and then decided to wait a few minutes to see if anyone came out. I was scared to piss, because I was sure I was going to be yelled at. It was a nice, shiny clean sedan. I could tell it belonged to a man, an older one. Since I spent the first 23 years of my life being yelled at for every little fuck up, I figured I was in for a yelling. After a minute, a nice looking Indian man, probably in his forties, walked up to the car. He didn’t even see the paint missing from his bumper. If I hadn’t left a note on the window, I guess I could’ve just let him drive away. But I did, and he looked nice so I said, “Excuse me, I hit your car.”

He was nice. He was beyond nice. He didn’t seem to give two shits that I had hit his very nice car. He looked at the damage and said, “Oh, that’s okay.”, and poked at it a bit to see if anything was bent. We exchanged phone numbers, “just in case”. I’m praying he doesn’t call. I’ve been advised to offer to pay for it out of pocket if he calls and it’s less than $500 because my insurance will go up more than that. We have money in savings, but that’s for a new car to replace the piece of shit that I just made even more worthless by taking a big hunk of paint off the front. But overall, i’m thankful that my first car accident didn’t involve the highway, or pedestrians, or me hurting anyone in any way.

The damage to our car, which is worse than what his got:

I went into the market and did my shopping. From the international market I got a bag of cumin (two pounds for $6!), chickpea flour, samolina (which I assume they mean semolina) flour, pomegranate molasses, and mushroom flavored dark soy sauce. Then I went to the actual outdoor market. I was mildly disappointed. I went mostly looking for berries and mint so I could make a fruit salad from Joanna’s tester recipes. But I couldn’t find raspberries, or mint. One woman had blueberries, but they weren’t local (I bought them anyway). No spinach, either. But I did get a pound of kale for 75 cents. I also got purple pepper, strawberries, tomatoes, peaches, and an eggplant. I also got two cilantro plants and a mint plant from one of the garden stands.

I decided to skip Wild Oats because I didn’t feel up to driving all the way around the city, and I figured I should try to conserve money just in case. Grumble grumble. I was a lot more tired than I thought, by the time I got home I was ready to craaaaaaaaaash. I managed to stay awake until 8:30 and then I hit the sheets. It wasn’t even dark out when I went to bed. I stayed asleep for 14 hours, I think I woke up once to pee.

Today I finished mulching the garden. There are lots of pictures on Flickr, i’m just going to put up this one because I had no idea how pretty cucumber flowers were until these bloomed:

I’ve been off the cleanse for a few days now. I lost about eight pounds, if you care. I actually quit three days early. On the 7th day, I came down with a head cold, I had a blinding headache all day that I couldn’t take medicine for. So I went to Walmart in the middle of the night and got some oranges for oj, and carrot juice. I drank both for the rest of the night, then in the morning. For dinner that say I had smooshy vegetable soup. I ate that all night and for lunch the next day. Then I went back to eating normal, including stuff from my care package from the great white north, which included vegan doritos. Yes, such a thing exists.

Today, in between all of my lawn work I decided to make a sandwich. When I would stay with my dad at his store, he would never have food for me. All I ate were cheese, miracle whip, and nacho cheese dorito sandwiches. Sick, huh? Sickly delicious. I made something like that today, but with tofurkey, tomato, and vegenaise.

I was too hungry to take a better picture.

Then I mowed the grass for over an hour. I think I got a little less than half of the yard done. Once again, dead tired.

  • Sorry to hear about your car accident!

All the fruit and veg look gorgeous and the little flowers look so cute. Also, congratulations on getting to day 7 of the cleanse, when I tried to do it I managed a couple of days before I gave up (I have no willpower when it comes to baked goods)

  • Did you actually put doritos in that sandwich? and if so was it awesome?
